Koishikawa Korakuen and Ueno Park Cherry blossoms first bloom
The First Bloom of Cherry Blossoms
We were chasing the first bloom of the Cherry blossom last weekend. First, we went to Yokohama to meet our friends and then drive all the way to Tokyo. It was my first time to see another kind of Cherry blossoms in Koishikawa Korakuen and in front of the entrance to Ueno Park. Although the sky was gloomy and it drizzled it didn't hinder us from going to the park to see this exquisite flower in Spring that only lasts for weeks. In Japan, there are two kinds of the Cherry tree the "Kiku-Shidare-Zakura" and the "Somei Yoshino". The first 2 pictures are the Kiku-shidare-zakura".It looks stunning to me because of the branches arching from the trunk. And the most popular or numerous is the "Somei Yoshino", the third to last picture.
The experience we had was pretty awesome even though we weren't able to join the "Hanami". Hanami, by the way, is where people eating and drinking or partying under the cherry blossom trees. Some family, friends or co-workers gathered to welcome the first bloom. We enjoyed watching them while walking along the streets. There are lots of food shops and the people are merry. I'm looking forward to joining Hanami probably next year if the weather cooperates.
